Long a venerable name in Eugene Oregon, Metropol Bakery delivers on presenting a variety of baked items which are exquisite on the taste buds. The staff is extremely friendly and maintains what has become a name brand in this area for a reason. The pies are delectable and the seasonal recipes cheerful, colorful, and playful. Truly, this bakery provides for a fine dessert and/or treat during any holiday or special occasion. 4.5 out of 5 stars.
Delicious! Was going to take a picture of the beautiful food but I was too excited to eat it! And rightfully so, it was delicious! The staff seems nice as well, I will be coming back to buy bread to bring back home to my Italian grandma.
pastries do not taste fresh even when purchasing mid morning. Perhaps the baking takes place too early the night prior rather than closer to the morning. This is now two days this week. This also happened earlier this year and they do not tase fresh. What a pity! This is even though when I phoned I was told they were made in the early morning. I cannot believe this. Disappointing.to have pastries that taste day old when buying what is sold as fresh that morning! You need to fix this Mertropol.
Metropol is the kind of business that perfectly represents the near farcical contradiction that is south Eugene. They operate in the section of town that’s filled with signs that say things like “hate has no home here,” and “honor diversity,” despite the fact that south Eugene is the least diverse, and most privileged, area of an already homogenous Northwestern town. If when you visit Metropol you aren’t seen to embody the codified accepted norms of the area, meaning largely that you’re not a silver haired wealthy boomer who arrives in a Subaru with your Northface coat, you will receive suboptimal customer service. I’ve been to Metropol about six times, most recently with my girlfriend who is a person of color, and we were met with the cold distain and arrogance that ensured we knew we didn’t belong. While the white girls behind the counter who voted for Bernie and didn’t quite finish their liberal arts degree chatted up the aforementioned regular patron, we were met with terse one word answers and a markedly different countenance. They barked at my girlfriend when her mask slipped to the tip of her nose. (Yes, it was momentary. We both wear masks and understand they need to cover both the nostrils and mouth to be effective.) I doubt they would have done that to someone more obviously from the neighborhood. I hate everything that this business has come to represent. They are xenophobic. They are arrogant. They are privileged. And if that wasn’t enough, the chocolate cake is dry as a bone. If you’re looking for baked goods, skip this shop and visit Creswell Bakery or La Espiga instead.
Placed an order from MI for my brother's virtual baby shower. Didn't give them much direction past flavors and they did a beautiful job and I was told that it was delicious.
